The J.H. Walker Legacy Foundation was founded in 2011 and is a federal 501(c)3 foundation. The daily management of the Foundation is conducted by the founder and president, Julie Walker. The Foundation was set up to make a lasting difference through funding programs already in place by community non-profits. The Foundation values of integrity, listening well and learning more, and seeking new opportunities were the founding principles.
About the Founder
Julie H. Walker established the J.H. Walker Legacy Foundation in 2011. The first grant was given in early 2012. She had a desire to impact the lives of children and teens which led to the creation of a charitable foundation. Julie personally manages each grant and works to develop a rapport with each recipient.
Julie was awarded the 2016 Foundation Philanthropist of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Charleston Chapter. She is also a member of the South Carolina Grantmakers Network and the Southeast Council of Foundations.
Prior to working at the Foundation, Julie was the Elementary Director at Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church, Moraga, California for thirteen years. There she worked with the children and parents, as well as liaison for volunteers who were in the elementary program.
Julie is a native of Tulsa, OK and attended the University of Oklahoma. She now resides in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
Philip has been on the J.H. Walker Legacy Foundation board since 2012. He has a background in science, medicine and finance and offers a perspective helpful with the grant evaluation process.
Philip has experience as a firefighter and EMT with the Radnor Fire Company, Radnor, PA. Philip currently lives in Philadelphia, PA where he is in the medical program at Jefferson Hospital.
Philip is a graduate of Villanova University.
Thomas joined the J.H. Walker Legacy Foundation board beginning in 2012. He has a background in government and law and assists with the decision process with grants. He also conducts site visits.
Thomas worked for Deloitte Consulting in Washington D.C. and Charlotte, NC. Thomas currently is pursuing his Juris Doctorate degree at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Thomas is a graduate of Wake Forest University.
